So its my Lil Monster's 6th birthday next week. 6 years!! How did that happen?!?! Anyway, true to fork she asked for a monster themed birthday party and of course I have gotten a bit carried away with it!
I'm not big on sweetie filled party bags, I just prefer to give something a little different, so I decided to make a small stuffed monster for everyone!! They are soooooo cute!!
They're pretty easy to make too, although I don't have a sewing machine so it's been pretty time consuming! All I needed was some 12" squares of felt, buttons for eyes, coloured threads for facial features and a cereal box & Ginger bread man cookie cutter for the template. Oh, and stuffing but as this is a project made by me, it couldn't possibly go according to plan so the stuffing hasn't turned up yet - but I have 20 to make so I needed to get started!!
They really are super easy to make. I just cut the side off my cereal box and drew around my gingerbread man cookie cutter. I made the template a little bigger than the cutter and added on a few details like horns and feet. I only drew half of it, then I scored the card with my scissors and folded it in half before cutting the template out to make sure it would be as even as possible.
I put the template on the felt and drew around then cut out the felt. I selected odd sized and odd coloured buttons for the eyes and attached with black thread, then added a little stitching around the smaller eye to give a little character! Next, I sticked a red smile and white zig zags on the horns.
The next step is to stich the 2 sides together! For a smooth result, put your sides together back to front and use a blanket stitch to sew around the edges. When you're all but 2" or so done, carefully feed the felt through the hole so your lil dude is the right way around.
We would now go on to fill with stuffing and seal - I'll add this to the post once the stuffing arrives and ive finished him off, but here's some photos of how he looks for now!!!
